The IGN NHL (EA Sports) Board fantasy hockey league began it's first season in 2003. The league was organized by dquigley, who continues to be the commissioner in the third season.

In August of each year a registration topic is started on the board and all users can sign up. Because of the limited number of spaces available, not all registrants can be invited every year. There hasn't been enough interest to field two full leagues to this point, but that option would be used if enough people wanted to join. Typically, no more than 25 users express interest for the league, which has a maximum of 20 teams.

Four teams have participated in every season: bpcoyote85, DGM's Flying Monkeys, dquigley, and Nash's Reds.
